Holly Hammonds is a huge fan of Kenny Chesney. So much so that she and her friend decided to go to his concert two days in a row. On the second night their tickets were in the nosebleeds. When they realized where they were sitting, they started looking further down the stadium to see if there were any empty seats closer.
Noticing a couple of empty seats farther down in the stadium, they made their way down. They waited for someone to kick them out, but when no one did, they continued to enjoy this stroke of luck that allowed them to get closer to the stage.
It was packed, but that didn't keep Hammonds and her friend from singing and dancing.
Through the crowd they saw each other. Call it what you want: fate, kismet or destiny, but it was a beautiful thing what happened next.
"As I was scanning the crowd, I noticed an extremely attractive guy looking in my direction," says Hammonds. "We kept staring and smiling at each other throughout the concert, until finally he waved to me. I instantly had butterflies, and I knew I had to meet him. Since I didn't have a pass to get down to the floor section where his seats were, I pulled out my phone and pointed at it. I then used my hands to sign my phone number to him from across the crowd-and he texted me!"
Through her creative method, they were able to start communicating with each other.
After getting her number
It sounds easier than it was to read the hand signals through the crowd, but when he finally got the number, he started texting her right away.
"Hey! Did I get it right?" was the first text he sent over.
She jokingly responded, "This would be awkward if you didn't."
Next came introductions. "Haha yes it would! :) I'm RJ Edwards."
She quickly responded, "I'm Holly Hammonds. Nice to meet you :)."
They continued to text throughout the concert and made plans to meet up afterwards. There were instant fireworks between the couple in person and they made plans for a real date that same week.
After dating for two blissful years, Edwards wanted to marry his sweetheart. He made an elaborate plan, but involved one of Hammonds friends so she wouldn't suspect a thing.
Hammond's friend invited the couple back to Bridgestone Arena where the couple had first laid eyes on each other. The friend had said they were going on a tour of the arena and had thought of them because it was were they first met.
During the tour Hammonds grabbed Edwards' hand and brought him to the place where they first saw each other. As Hammonds looked around remembering the night they first met, Edwards got down on one knee and pulled out the ring. When Hammonds turned around, he was proposing.
"I was completely shocked and said 'shut up!' three times before I managed to shout out 'yes!'" Hammonds recounted.
